Hey everyone, today we will be going into finding exact locations, finding webcams and historical data! So if you are ready lets jump in!
Task Brief:
The image below is a screenshot from a zoo live cam. It was taken on January 15, 2023 at around 2pm local time.
Please answer the questions below:
a) In which zoo are these polar bears located?
b) What was the temperature at the time of the screenshot?
c) What were the exact coordinates of where the bears were lying down?
Ok so we should take a look at where we can find some information about this photo. So we know that this was taken from a webcam, so I did a google search about “Zoo webcams” and The San Diego Zoo was the first entry
This is really nice because they do have the polar bear cam which we can see this is potentially the location especially if you look at this screenshot we can see a similar environment.
Next I went to google to find a map to find out where in the zoo they may be located and I did find a map
So now I know they are located in the northern frontier! So I went to google to see if I could find it!
I was able to so now I could some information like coordinates
I also took it a step further and did a google earth search and was able to almost replicate the photo
So we can definitely see from this angle that this is a spitting image from our original photo minus the grass. We can definitely confirm this was taken from the San Diego zoo!
So next I went to google earth to find this location. I highlighted where the bears were potentially in the photo and i grabbed the coordinates
from the angle I could see this where the rock formation could of potentially been and the angle from the shoot could be facing that direction.
So now we need to find some historical data on the temperature.
So I went back to google and typed in “Weather History” and was able to find a site called “Weather Unground” This site is very useful because you can go back in time and find the exact date and approximate time! So I typed in San Diego and went back to January 15, 2023. I was only able to get the temperature from 1:51pm but that’s close enough to 2pm. So we can see that the temperature was 62 degrees Fahrenheit.
I really like this website so i will personally keep this for any future use!
Now we can answer all the questions!

c) What were the exact coordinates of where the bears were lying down? 32.73450, -117.15458 approximately.
