Today we will be going through the Bellingcat walkthrough! This is strictly a Geolocation walkthrough designed to test your skills at analyzing images and trying to find the location!
So lets look at the challenge
So the first thing we should be doing is opening the image in a new tab and saving it, so we can analyze the image!
The first thing that tipped me off was, being able to read some shop signs!
I decided to pick Shishandis because it had a cool name. So I punched this into google maps and found out this image was in frankfurt Germany!
So I decided to drop into the google map view and see what I could find!
And there we are!
Almost a spitting image! You can definitely see in this photo there is construction and some changes but you can see everything from the original image! So we can see we are on Stiftstraße ST!
This exercise is really nice because it gives you the opportunity to analyze the image and find a few different perspectives. This is an important skill for those wanting to get into OSINT!
